Projects
To address the crisis caused by the indefinite shutdown of the George F. Haines International Swim Center (ISC) in Santa Clara, we propose an urgent and a longer-term project with equal emphasis on immediate solutions to provide training needs for the community while also working on building the future of aquatics in Santa Clara. Please join us and pledge to support your community.
1: Urgent Needs
Water & Diving Board
Santa Clara Artistic Swimming (Aquamaids), due to the ISC shutdown, is incurring monthly expenses that are unsustainable. The club is currently exceeding their monthly budget by $40,000 to secure water space that meets specific depth and temperature requirements — the club needs the equivalent of a 30 meter by 25 meter pool that is at least 10 feet deep and heated to 81°F to 83°F. Your pledge of support today will directly contribute to sustaining this team, which boasts three alumni swimmers and the club’s head coach (Bill May) competing in the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
Santa Clara Diving urgently needs a 3-meter diving board, which carries a price tag of up to $30,000. Your donation is crucial to help us acquire this equipment. Please pledge your support today.
2: Longer-term Project
New Swim Center
We urgently need a permanent home for Santa Clara Swim Club, Santa Clara Diving Club, and Santa Clara Artistic Swimming to ensure the legacy of these three outstanding non-profit organizations. Rebuilding the George F. Haines International Swim Center is estimated to take 3-4 years for design and construction.
Multiple options are being explored including an option to purchase an above-ground pool, such as was used at the Indianapolis Olympic Trials, and repurpose it for use in this project. We expect to work with the City of Santa Clara and private donors to bring out vision to life. Stay tuned for further updates as we finalize the details.
